- 70g lavender flowers
- 475ml cold water
- 250ml lemon juice
- 200g caster sugar

- Place the lavender in a serving jug/pitcher; pour the boiling water over the lavender; cover with plastic wrap and allow to steep 10 minutes; pass through a sieve and discard the lavender from the water. Return the water to the serving jug/pitcher. Add the cold water, lemon juice and sugar to the serving jug/pitcher and stir until the sugar dissolves. Refrigerate until serving.
If unavailable, substitute in dried lavender buds to taste.

Very pronounced lavender flavor with a pretty pink color!! My kitchen smelled like aromatherapy during and afterwards! I used dried organic culinary lavender (which I ordered over the internet). It seemed that the lavender flavor was even more pronounced the following day. To make 1 cup of lemon juice I used about 7 lemons.-04 Sep 2009
This is way too much sugar. I had to fill the rest of the 2 qt pitcher up to dilute it and it's still way too sugary. Great concept, though. I used lavender leaves instead of flowers and 1/4 cup reconstituted lemon juice since I had no fresh on hand. Next time, I think I'll cut the sugar in half, add a little more lemon juice, and enough water to fill a 2 qt pitcher.-29 Jul 2011

I’m obsessed with lavender. Candles, body washes, flavored honey – you name it. So when I found out that you can actually cook with this pretty little bud, I went straight to Amazon to buy a package of food-grade lavender buds and set out to explore exactly what you can do with them.

After hearing about a wonderful-sounding lavender latte at some mystical coffee shop during a weekend trip to Savannah but not being able to get my hands on one, I knew that I had to figure out a way to make my own. And thus, this lavender simple syrup was born.
Since then, I’ve been experimenting with lavender-infused drinks. And, while the lavender simple syrup is great for the adventurous coffee drinker, this kid-friendly lavender lemonade is by far the best pairing. So do yourself a favor, put a bag of lavender buds in your Amazon shopping cart, and sip on, my fellow flower children.
A twist on a classic
To make this recipe, I used my homemade lavender simple syrup. Be sure to check out the recipe since I’ve detailed the different types of lavender and made suggestions about what to look for when lavender-shopping.
It takes just a few minutes to make lavender syrup and you can keep it in the fridge for about a month. It’s floral and aromatic and pairs perfectly with the good old lemonade we all love.

Lavender has a long history of usefulness in many ways. It has been used over the ages for medicinal, therapeutic, decorative, cosmetic and culinary purposes. Its origins are Mediterranean, but the plant is very hardy and grows well anywhere where there's a lot of summer heat, and dry temperatures. Our house is pretty chilly so I came out back to sit in the sun a bit and type of this post for you all. I felt like I could only do this Sparkling Vodka Lavender Lemonade justice by typing these exact words while I bask in the joy of sunshine.
Spring has sprung here. It seems kind of silly because you imagine southern California as an always sunny, warm weather place. And, it is. But there are slight changes in seasons that make you really appreciate the spring and summer months that much more.
So as I started to think about our spring outdoor weather, I decided we were also about due for a cocktail recipe. My favorite kind of cocktails are refreshing, are juicy, are sweet, and well… get a nice abuzz on.
I couldn’t help but get excited about lemonade season and pink lemonade season and Arnold Palmer season that I started to think a spiked lemonade would be kind of the perfect addition to my lemonade repertoire.
This recipe is fun because you’re making your own lemon syrup with a simple mix of agave nectar (honey or maple syrup works if you prefer) and some lemon juice. Mix it up with some lavender, some vodka, some bubbles and GIRL. You got yourself spring in a glass.
To me, what makes gatherings go from “nice” to “aw I had the best time” is the surprise cocktail. Maybe this says too about me and my priorities and where I come from and who I am buuut… you bring me a fun cocktail when I’m least expecting it and I’m pretty sure I’ll be your friend for life.
Pretty cocktails are the trick, I tell you!

Begin by combining the lemon syrup ingredients in a glass measuring cup. Mix well.
To make the cocktail, muddle together the lemon syrup, lavender and lemon slice well so that the lavender flavor can release from the petals. Pour in the vodka and mix well.
Pour the vodka syrup mixture into a 12oz. glass with ice and top with seltzer. Mix and enjoy! This makes one cocktail but you’ll have more lemon syrup leftover to make more!
Hi Everyone, as we head into the warmer weather of summer, I implore you to give this Lavender Lemonade a try! In this recipe, I use my Lavender Simple Syrup which gives the most subtle lavender essence.
I can just imagine it being served at all those Summer holidays, gatherings, BBQs – you name it. You know what? Just make it for yourself, you deserve it!
You can use food grade edible lavender flowers to make the simple syrup and to use as a garnish for the top. You can find them on Amazon here unless of course, you grow it. We grow lavender at our house and it will be blooming in June, the sprigs you see in these photos are the baby flower buds.
I love the color of this lemonade, it’s almost the color of lemon curd, like a more opaque yellow which I think is due to the type of lemons but also the purple-grey color from the Lavender Simple Syrup.
You could even blend this up as a Lavender Lemon Slushie which would be great for those hot days coming up.
Ingredients for Lavender Lemonade
- 1 tablespoon dried food grade lavender flowers or 3 tablespoons fresh (just the flowers not the stem)
- 1 cup granulated white sugar
- 2 cups boiling water (for making the syrup)
- 1 1/2 cups fresh squeezed lemon juice
- 4 cups (or more to taste) water
- ice cubes
- lavender sprigs, for garnishing (optional)

You can control the strength of the lavender simple syrup when it’s infused in the water I recommend 10 minutes.

Bring the water and lavender to a boil in a saucepan.
Reduce the heat and stir in the sugar until fully dissolved.
Simmer for about 15 minutes.
Remove from the heat and allow to cool and steep for at least 1 hour or longer, until the flavor is to your liking. Strain out the lavender. Pour the lavender syrup into a bottle and keep in the refrigerator. Mix the syrup into your favorite drinks and enjoy.
What's the Secret to Getting a Purple Lavender Syrup?
Most of the time, the lavender syrup will not turn out purple in color. With most types of lavender, the color will actually be a golden brown or amber, sometimes with a hint of green. Whether homegrown or store-bought culinary lavender, the final color will be determined by how fresh or dry the buds are, as well as the plant variety. There can even be variations year to year with the same plants.
Generally, if you let the lavender steep longer, it will develop a deeper, more intense color. The flavor is a more important factor, however, so strain it when the taste reaches an intensity you enjoy. If you really want a purple syrup, stir in two drops of red and one drop of blue liquid food coloring, either into the water or after the syrup cools. Using a little extra red produces the light purple of lavender. (Purple gel food coloring tends to make a dark purple—or nearly black—syrup.)
